mixed use development in urban setting

An urban infill project combining a new church hall and eight housing association flats has been completed at the above site. The new church hall, at ground floor level, has been commissioned by the Trustees of the Parish of St. Margaret's, to replace an old church hall previously occupying the same site.

The eight one and two bedroom flats have been commissioned by Southland Housing Association Limited and occupy the first and second floors of the new building.

The project is a design and build contract and was built by Ashe Construction (Southampton) Limited and was handed over at the end of June 2002.

The original design was initiated by others. Axis Architecture was commissioned by the Contractor to develop the design and produce the working drawings and documents.

The small size of the site belies the complexity of the solution, but provides a good blueprint for mixed-use high density development in a tight urban setting.

Axis worked closely with the Contractor to maximise use of the site and provide a cost efficient solution to both Clients.
