The proposed redevelopment retains the existing Post Office structure and provides increased retail area with the addition of a new extension. The Post Office counter is to be relocated, and the existing recessed entrance on the High Street is infilled to provide further floor area.
The existing first floor is to be refurbished as staff accommodation, and accessed via a new staircase. Two storeys of residential units (3 No. units in total) are provided to the rear of the site (Thorngate Way) above the new retail extension.
The design employs a modern, robust design appropriate to its location using brickwork for the external walls and metal standing seam mono-pitched roofs. Deep recessed balconies with timber cladding provide the units with added privacy, whilst animating the elevations with shadow and materials.
