HIGH BAY WAREHOUSING FOR WYETH

Axis Architecture was commissioned as part of a 'Design & Build' contract for the construction of a new multi-million pound high bay warehouse extension at New Lane, Havant. The project for Wyeth, one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, consists of a distribution centre for their UK and European operations.

Whilst the building is simple in principle, many underlying complexities and considerations made this a challenging project. The materials used for the project are required to comply with Factory Mutual Global criteria. The scale of the building also provided a challenge, reaching a height of 25 metres at the 'high bay' section.

Further to this, the nature of the processes to be housed within the new warehouse - 4 hour fire resisting structure and chillstore maintained at 2 to 8 degrees centigrade, for example - requires specific construction and materials applications within different areas of the building.

The redevelopment of the site has greatly enhanced its capabilities as a major international distribution hub.
