house renovation - wickham

The property, situated near Wickham, is currently a single storey house with two bedrooms in the roof. It has been extended several times since it was originally constructed resulting in an unconventional and claustrophobic arrangement on the inside.

In order to modernise the building, the best strategy for this project was to extend the building upwards into a more conventional two storey dwelling with a traditional country house aesthetic. The client wants to modernise the property and extend it with an additional bedroom, a larger kitchen and dining room and a large family room. The main entrance is currently on the side of the building, and therefore an imposing and more conventional front entrance feature was also desired by the client. A central staircase will lead to a gallery landing lit from above with roof lights, creating a grand entrance to the 6 bedroom house.

The resulting building sits comfortably in its surroundings with its traditional country house styling similar to the other properties in the area. Axis Architecture was successful in gaining planning permission for the project.
