Axis Architecture has gained planning approval for a scheme to refurbish and extend the current post office in Newport and provide a residential block fronting onto Lugley Street.
The scheme retains the structure of the existing listed Post Office building and provides a remodelled staircase for access to the refurbished first and second floor flats. The ground floor extension allows for the relocation of the Post Office counter and the creation of a greatly enhanced open retail floor space.
The residential block to the rear of the site is arranged as two stories of accommodation above the retail space.
The scheme aims to respect the context of the conservation area, whilst providing enhanced services and accommodation to the local community.
