Axis Architecture are pleased to announce they have gained planning approval for eight new classrooms, new car parking and an access road at Baston House School, Hayes in the London Borough of Bromley, for their Client ‘Options Autism 7’. The school is a special educational provision for student on the autistic spectrum and provides specialist education to eight adjacent London Boroughs. The school’s success and reputation has created a demand for more student places. The planning application was highly sensitive and complex with the school being within a conservation area and within London’s Green Belt Zone as well as being on a busy road junction. Axis worked closely with Paul Basham Associates, Transport Planning Consultancy, who carried out traffic surveys and were able to convince the Council’s Highway Engineers the additional traffic would not cause chaos. Despite strong opposition from locals, the Planning Committee were persuaded that the benefits of expanding the school outweigh the disadvantages. The new classrooms are planned to be in operation for the coming Autumn term.
We have recently received planning and listed building consent at HM Youth Custody Centre, Aylesbury. This is for internal alterations and refurbished main entrance and new reception area.
