Christ Church Community Centre and Flats

– Gosport, Hampshire

Axis Architecture was commissioned by Christ Church to gain planning approval for a new community hall and six flats to replace the existing one hundred year old building.

The aim of the project was to demolish an existing church hall and replace it with new facilities that could be funded by the sale of the private flats.  This was achieved by a three storey block of flats positioned above the ground floor community facilities.

Careful consideration was given to the proximity of the new building adjacent to the existing Christ Church building. The use of contrasting brickwork, modern materials and design features help the building to fit into its surrounding context.  A panel of existing brickwork was installed at the entrance to the community hall as a reminder of what had previously occupied the site.
