The Hub – Leigh Park

– Hampshire

Park Families, a leading charity in Leigh Park, commissioned Axis to design a change of use scheme to convert a redundant restaurant into a community hub in the heart of the Leigh Park community opposite the main library.

The hub contains a range of offices and multi-purpose meeting rooms to allow a number of charities to delivery local services.

The heart and centre piece of ‘The Hub’ is a community café which not only provides a meeting place serving home cooked food but also provides a training base for students from local catering colleges to gain practical experience.

The key to the success of the project was to create a dynamic café space with good all round glazing, daylight and a lofty ceiling.  The biggest design challenge was to install the kitchen and its commercial ventilation system in a different location than originally intended for the restaurant.
